After deciding that breaking and schooling horses for showjumping was getting a little too risky, I trained as a farrier and Qualified in 2013. I have been brought up around horses and have ridden since the age of three when I was given my first pony, Crocus. /
Farriery has become an occupation as well as a passion and there is nothing better than doing a l of competition horses and the occasional remedial referral.
What to Expect
On your first visit your horse will be assessed both statically and dynamically (standing and walking) to determine any areas of the hoof which need correction. The horses history will be discussed including any history of lameness or previous problems. If you require stud holes or road nails to prevent your horse from slipping then these can easily be done so just ask.
I have the facilities to custom make shoes to your horses exact requirements and remedial farriery will be discussed with you and your vet if necessary.
I have had good results using alternative and modern methods of shoeing including gels and pads for sole protection and the use of plastic shoes and glue to avoid the use of nails. If your horse is not coping with traditional shoeing techniques then I will be more than happy to discuss the alternatives with you.
I regularly attend conferences and CPD days including the annual British Equine Veterinary Congress to make sure I am keeping fully up to date with cutting edge techniques and theories.
Advice can also be given on hoof supplements and topical preparations which your horse may benefit from.
